The Government can still spy on you, even if the Patriot Act expires. There is a provision in the Patriot Act, that Congress probably doesn't know about, that seems the President has the ability, to keep the illegal bulk collection of phone records indefinitely, even if the Patriot Act expires. And It looks they have been tracking our phone calls before 9/11. The Government kept track track of Americans' international phone calls, in response to the War on Drugs, for almost a decade. The Justice Department, and the DEA gathered billions of phone calls, ranging between 116 countries, to look for potential drug traffickers. But, they amassed logs, of almost every phone, for more than 2 decades, for the war on drugs. If they can have mass surveillance out in the public, this large, think about how large the mass surveillance would be, if they did in private. What if they are doing it in private, and their surveillance techniques go way beyond our telephones, and internet search browsers?
