This photo was taken by a teacher, at a white privilege training session, at a school in Minnesota. The picture depicts a klansman, with the words underneath saying, "When do you wear the hood?", then the principal of the school asked teachers to reflect on the image, for a few minutes. These training sessions are created by a group by the name of PEG (Pacific Educational Group). This program revolves around the idea that white privilege is consistent with, rugged individualism, adherence to rigid time schedules, planning for the future, and hard work to become successful. Black teachers have even come out against PEG. A black teacher, by the the name of Benner, in response to PEG said, “It’s so comical. PEG says shouting out in class is a black cultural norm, and being on time is a white cultural thing. It’s so demeaning, so condescending to black kids. If a white person were making claims like this, black people would be in an uproar.”
I do believe that there is racial privilege, and racial profiling. But, I don't think you should go around shaming that race. And what this PEG program is doing, is the same thing hate crimes are doing, saying that a person committed this crime, because the motive was a form of hate, and you think that form of hate is twisted, or bizarre. All hate is twisted. Crime usually isn't committed out of love. Pleas share this blog, and podcast, with at least one other person.
